Why it matters

Ghana's 2026 tax rules broke the old way of doing books.

Global tools treat Ghana as an edge case, and spreadsheets have no idea Act 1151 happened. Klaro was built for exactly this moment.

Uncleared invoices get rejected

From 2026, a valid VAT invoice must be cleared by GRA's VSDC and carry an IRN + QR. Klaro builds that into the issue flow rather than bolting it on — so the day our certification lands, clearance is a switch, not a project.

The VAT math changed

Act 1151 abolished the COVID levy, recoupled NHIL & GETFund, and moved to a flat 20% on net. Klaro's engine is effective-dated — 2025 and 2026 both compute correctly.

Spreadsheets can't be trusted

No approvals, no audit trail, no locked periods. Klaro enforces maker-checker and an immutable ledger in the database itself.

What you get

Every claim here is a feature that's already built and tested.

Invoicing & E-VAT

Raise it, send it — with the GRA stamp built in.

Issue an invoice and Klaro submits it to GRA's VSDC, takes back the IRN, SDC code and QR, and prints them on the document. Offline, it stamps and re-transmits within the 24-hour window. This runs in sandbox today; live transmission switches on with GRA certification.

See it in action

One invoice — per-line VAT, levies, and the E-VAT stamp in place.

A real Klaro invoice: per-line VAT treatment, the 2026 levies, and the E-VAT block where it belongs. The stamp shown is from our sandbox — it goes live with GRA certification.

A Klaro Books invoice for GH¢1,795.00 from Coskon Technologies to Beverly Asante-Yeboah — per-line VAT treatment and the 2026 levies, with a sandbox E-VAT block showing an IRN, SDC code and QR, footer reading 'Generated by Klaro Books'.

Only the standard-rated line is taxed — consulting & transport zero-rated here. That per-line treatment is automatic.

Signature tool

The 2026 VAT calculator

See exactly how NHIL, GETFund and VAT stack under Act 1151 — the same math Klaro posts to your ledger.

Signature tool

The SSNIT contribution calculator

Enter a monthly basic salary and see the Tier 1 and Tier 2 split — the same figures Klaro posts to the ledger when you run payroll.

SSNIT is worked out on basic salary, not gross pay — allowances are excluded. Insurable earnings are bounded both ways: a floor of GH₵ 587.79 and a ceiling of GH₵ 69,000 a month.

Indicative, on 2026 rates — 5.5% employee + 13% employer = 18.5%, split 13.5% to SSNIT (Tier 1) and 5% to your Tier 2 trustee. Tier 3 is voluntary and not shown here. Confirm against current SSNIT and NPRA guidance before running live payroll.

Signature tool

The PAYE & take-home calculator

What actually lands in an employee's account after SSNIT and PAYE — on the 2026 graduated bands, the same ones Klaro runs payroll on.

Allowances are taxable but not pensionable — SSNIT is charged on basic only, while PAYE is charged on both. Assumes a resident employee with no Tier 3.

Indicative, on 2026 annual bands — first GH₵ 5,880 free, then 5%, 10%, 17.5%, 25%, 30% and 35% on the balance. PAYE is worked out on annualised pay and divided back over twelve months, which is why it won't always match a simple monthly-band calculation. Confirm against current GRA guidance before running live payroll.

Signature tool

The withholding tax calculator

A supplier invoice arrives — how much do you withhold, and what do you actually pay them? The same split Klaro posts, with the certificate generated for you.

Withholding is calculated on the VAT-exclusive amount — never on the VAT itself — but it comes out of the total you'd otherwise pay.

Indicative, on current GRA rates for payments to resident suppliers. Rent withholding is a final tax. Thresholds, exemptions and withholding-agent status can change what applies to you — confirm against current GRA guidance.

Questions, answered.

Does Klaro connect to GRA's E-VAT system?

The integration is built and running in sandbox: Klaro submits the invoice to GRA's E-VAT (VSDC) inside the issue flow and prints the returned IRN, SDC code and QR on the document. Live clearance is not switched on yet — that depends on GRA certification, which is in progress. Invoices you raise today are correct VAT invoices under Act 1151, and they carry a stamp marked as simulated until certification lands. We would rather tell you that now than have you find it out from your auditor.

Does it handle the 2026 VAT changes?

Fully. The engine is effective-dated for VAT Act 1151 — COVID levy abolished, NHIL & GETFund recoupled and input-creditable, flat 20% on net. Pre-2026 documents still compute the old way.

How much is SSNIT in Ghana?

18.5% of basic salary — 5.5% deducted from the employee, 13% paid by the employer. That total splits into Tier 1 (13.5%) to SSNIT and Tier 2 (5%) to a private trustee. Insurable earnings are bounded by a floor of GH₵ 587.79 and a ceiling of GH₵ 69,000 a month, and Tier 3 is voluntary on top. Try the SSNIT calculator above.

How is PAYE calculated in Ghana?

On annualised taxable pay, using graduated bands, then divided back over twelve months — which is why it doesn't always match a straight monthly-band sum. Taxable pay is gross less the employee's 5.5% SSNIT. The 2026 bands: first GH₵ 5,880 free, then 5%, 10%, 17.5%, 25%, 30%, and 35% on the balance. Work out any salary with the PAYE & take-home calculator above.

What are the withholding tax rates in Ghana?

For resident suppliers: goods 3%, works 5%, services 7.5%, residential rent 8% and commercial rent 15%. The rate applies to the VAT-exclusive amount — never to the VAT itself — but it still comes out of the total you pay. You remit the withholding to GRA and issue the supplier a certificate they claim as a tax credit. Work out any invoice with the withholding tax calculator above.

Can I run more than one company?

Yes — unlimited companies on Growth and Enterprise, with true consolidation and intercompany elimination. Adding a company or a user costs nothing extra.

How do I pay?

In Ghana cedis, by card or Mobile Money (MTN, Telecel, AirtelTigo) through Paystack.

Is my data safe?

Every workspace is isolated at the database level, the ledger is immutable with locked periods and a full audit trail, and we align to the Ghana Data Protection Act.
